Vitamix vs. VolkswagenIt all started when Karen got a Vitamix for a present.  Now, granted, it was a birthday, Christmas and multiple Valentine’s Day gift rolled into one, big, “here’s something special”…. In fact, she got it when they were building their new house, so there is actually a utility garage that was built specificially to house this engineering marvel.

I had a $19 blender that I had used for many, many years.  It was one that even had a glass pitcher rather than a plastic one… and it had two speeds, Low and Kinda’ High.

Having a blender is a pretty much “must have” when it comes to making smoothies.  In fact, if you ever want to do Harley Pasternak’s Body Reset Diet, a blender is a big part of what makes that program work.  According to Karen, it is also a part of what can make the program fun.

Two months ago, I was making my morning Shaklee 180 shake and low-and-behold, as I was getting my old blender friend out of the lower cabinet, I dropped it.  Boom. Crack. Oops. I broke the glass pitcher. Shoot.  Yes, you could find a replacement, but they all cost as much as a new $19 blender would cost.  When I would go shopping, I couldn’t help but walk through the household goods and gaze just to see what was out there.  They were all bright and shiny and new, all full of options and promises.

But what about a Vitamix?  WHAT?  over $400?  What?  That is just about what we paid for that silver volkswagen van we had that we drove across the United States to ship with us to Hawaii that time.  It had no air conditioner, it had no heater.  It was a stick shift. It was faithful. We called it the silver bullet. So, now, I’m going to spend as much on a blender as I did for transportation?  Huh?  Am I that old? Am I that out of touch? Am I that crazy?

So, rather than buying a substandard, rather than buying a Vitamix, I did nothing.  Several months went by.  Then imagine my shock, when our older sister Bonnie announced she bought a Vitamix. What? So, now I’m the only one without this modern marvel?

Things had to change. I went online and ordered one through Cinchyourstate.com/recipes. By clicking on the ad, I qualified for free shipping. Whew, that’s a plus.  Four days later a box was delivered to my door.  Unpacked it with unbridled excitement.

This morning, I made my first smoothie in my very own Vitamix. Did it make a difference? Well, let me just share what I did. All I did was put in a cup of 2% milk, along with 2 scoops of Shaklee 180 Mango Energizing Smoothee, plus 1/2 cup frozen mango. Turned it on low, slowly increased the speed, w-h-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r. Got out a glass, and it happened. All of a sudden I am pouring magic into a glass. The mango smoothie was smoooooooooth. It took the frozen mango and made it into a glass of frozen bliss. How can it make that much difference?

I don’t know. That’s why they call it magic. I think I am going to absolutely love my Vitamix. My mind is a blur thinking about the soups and mixes and surprises that are going to blossom from this fertile garden of unlimited possibilities.

Be sure and keep checking back because I’ll share the recipes and the results. I had reached my original Shaklee 180 goal, but have decided that I CAN lose another 10 pounds.
